Frequently Asked Questions

Don’t see the answer you’re looking for? Feel free to contact us, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

  • As an educator, do I have to sign a long-term contract?

No. HookBoard is a subscription service charged to your credit card (Visa®, MasterCard®, American Express® or PayPal™) each month. You can cancel at any time. If you cancel, you’ll be able to finish your current month, and we’ll never charge your card again.

  • Will my unused credits “roll over” from month to month?

Yes. HookBoard does not require students to purchase a subscription plan, so any unused credits can be put towards future lessons, courses or tutoring sessions. All credits expire within 365 days of purchase.

  • What types of tutoring sessions are available?

All tutoring sessions are live, and students have the option to choose between one-on-one sessions or group sessions (2-5 students total). You may either schedule a session for a future time or take an instant, on-demand session with an instructor-tutor who is currently online. Educators are available 24/7.

  • What prices should I charge?

Educators may charge any price they so choose at a minimum of $10/hour. Certain subjects and specific niche fields generally command a higher hourly rate, so you may want to take a look at what other educators are charging to get a better idea of common lesson, course and tutoring session prices for particular subjects.

And remember — your ratings from students may be more important than the prices you set.

At HookBoard, we believe in free speech and transparency in everything we do. Our community is built on trust, and trust comes from honest conversations. To that end, there is no feature on our site that allows educators to change or delete reviews that appear on their profiles.

If you believe that a review or review response violates our guidelines, please contact HookBoard customer support. We will investigate the report and will take the appropriate action — this may include removing portions of the review or response that violates our guidelines, restricting the user’s account, or suspending the user, when necessary.

By posting a review, you agree to follow the HookBoard guidelines and policies that HookBoard may enforce using its sole discretion.

  • How long does it take for my bank account to be verified for direct deposits?

When providing us with your bank account information for the first time, we’ll verify it before sending you a payout by depositing a small sum of less than five cents into your account. This is done to ensure we are sending money to the correct account.

We only need to verify your bank account once, which usually takes only a few business days. After that point, you will receive your payouts as normal. Note that your bank account will not be automatically verified — instead, its status will change to “pending verification.” Within a few days, you should receive an email letting you know if the verification was a success (and any instructions if it was not). The status of your bank account will update accordingly.

  • How can I find an educator?

Students choose from any Educator-Professor, Teacher, Instructor-tutor based on subject category, sub-category, lesson, course or his/her expertise, education, qualifications, credentials, reviews, and price.

  • What happens when a Student Schedules a Session with a Professor, Teacher, or Instructor-tutor?

An email is sent to the educator stating that a request for a scheduled session has been made. The educator must be logged in to his/her account to Accept or Decline the request for an Appointment. If the Educator declines the session the student is not entitled to give review since no appointment was made. Once an educator accepts a session a confirmation email is sent to the Student.
